(UE. Toronto). On Tuesday, January 15, 2013 the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Hon. Dave Levac, met with Ukrainian community leaders - the president of the League of Ukrainian Canadians Orest Steciw and the editor of the community newspaper “Ukrainian Echo” Oleh Romanyshyn. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues pertaining to Holodomor education and the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Holodomor as a genocide by famine of the Ukrainian people in 1932-1933.
After the meeting, the Speaker was presented with various materials on the subject of the genocide:
Documentary films, a Holodomor anniversary calendar, and the latest publication by the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) - “The Holodomor Reader: A Sourcebook on the Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine” (Edmonton: CIUS, 2012).
