EXHIBIT OF ANTIQUARIAN MAPS

(PCUH) - Professor  Bohdan  Kordan of the University of Saskatchewan has been invited to curate an exhibition of seventeenth and eighteenth century maps of Ukraine from the Orest & Olesia Talpash and Chrysant & Leslie Dmytruk collections at the Bruce Peel Special Collections Library, University of Alberta. The collections were recent donations to the University of Alberta. The exhibition entitled “Shared Treasures: Antiquarian Maps of Ukraine” draws on selected items from the two collections.

"It is important that we celebrate gifts such as these to the library and university," said Robert Desmarais, Head of the Bruce Peel Special Collections Library at the University of Alberta. "They strengthen our current holdings in Ucrainica and make the University of Alberta a centre of excellence for the study of Ukraine."

Professor Kordan commented that he was excited to have been asked to curate the exhibit. "It is a wonderful opportunity. The collections are superb and as gifts to the university, they demonstrate a real commitment by members of the community to the University of Alberta as a place where the heritage of Ukraine is appreciated. It is a vote of confidence in the university and the university has reciprocated by honoring the donors with this exhibit."

The exhibition will be held in conjunction with CARTO 2013 (June 11-14), a joint conference of the Association of Canadian Map Librarians and the Canadian Cartographic Association. The exhibit will run June 10 to 28 at the Cameron Library.
