UKRAINIAN CANADIAN CONGRESS CONGRATULATES MARC NADON
OTTAWA - OCTOBER 11, 2013. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress congratulates Justice Marc Nadon on his appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Nadon indicated his pride in his Ukrainian and French Canadian roots at his public Parliamentary hearing on his nomination on October 2, 2013,
"I was born in St. Jerome, Quebec to a French Canadian minor league hockey player father and a Ukrainian Canadian professional singer mother who worked at the Chateau Frontenac...I am proud of my French Canadian and Ukrainian background.My Ukrainian grandparents came to Canada during the First World War and were pleased to come to a country which welcomed them so warmly.
"The Ukrainian Canadian community congratulates Justice Nadon on this most important and prestigious appointment," stated Ukrainian Canadian Congress National President Paul Grod. "Mr. Nadon is fluently bilingual, a world expert on maritime law and experienced at the Federal Court level. We have every confidence that he will undertake his functions as Canada's newest Supreme Court justice with distinction."
Prior to his appointment as justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Nadon served as a judge of the Federal Court of Canada, Trial Division and as an ex officio member of the Federal Court of Appeal. In 1994, Mr. Justice Nadon was appointed Judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada and, in 1998, a judicial member of the Competition Tribunal. Prior to his appointment to the Federal Court, Mr. Justice Nadon was a lawyer and partner at Fasken Martineau Walker in Montréal, including a stint in the London, United Kingdom office of that firm.
