JUNE 30, 2014 - James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake, today issued the following statement:
“I was pleased to learn that Parks Canada decided to replace the “Russian Ukraine” street sign inside The Forks National Historic Site in Winnipeg.
“I want to thank my colleague Leona Aglukkaq, Minister for the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, on developing a solution that resulted in a fair and balanced response to the concerns raised by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and Canadian Group for Democracy in Ukraine, and installing a replacement for the interpretive street sign.
“Canada is among the strongest international supporters of Ukraine’s efforts to restore stability and implement democratic and economic reforms.Ukraine’s sovereign territory must be respected and the Ukrainian people must be free to determine their own future.”
