MINISTER FAST MEETS WITH UKRAINIAN CANADIAN COMMUNITY LEADERS
February 28, 2015 - Toronto, Ontario - International Trade Minister Ed Fast joins Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Centre Ted Opitz and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and for the Francophonie Bernard Trottier at a round table for Ukrainian-Canadian community leaders from the Greater Toronto Area to discuss recent events in Ukraine and the Canadian-Ukrainian partnership.
Canada is at the forefront of the international support for the Ukrainian people in their opposition to Russian aggression and occupation. Canada’s long-standing bilateral development assistance programs continue to invest in Ukraine to advance democracy, strengthen human rights and support sustainable economic growth.
Minister Fast discussed his recent trade and development mission to Ukraine—his second in less than a year—and updated participants on the ongoing negotiations toward a Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement aimed at creating new market opportunities and predictable conditions for businesses, strengthening the Canada-Ukraine partnership in peace and prosperity.
