Lt. Nadiya Savchenko, fighter pilot, officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, elected representative to the Ukrainian Parliament and member of the Parliament of Europe, who was kidnapped by Russian forces in the Anti-Terrorist Zone in Eastern Ukraine, has been in Russian jails for a year and a half now.
Fabricated evidence of her alleged guilt has been widely disseminated long before any day in court, in order to justify the harsh prison term, she is expected to receive as her sentence. The evidence supporting her innocence has been completely disregarded.
In protest over the callous treatment of her case by the legal system of the Russian Federation, Nadiya Savchenko has announced that she will resume her earlier interrupted hunger strike, this time fasting without water.
We appeal to all diplomatic powers globally, to all of the National Councils of Women of the world, to all international organizations, all Ukrainian organizations in the diaspora, to all caring citizens everywhere, to unite to free Nadiya Savchenko, whose condition is such that she will not survive this second hunger strike.
We call for a renewed global movement - Save Ukraine’s Heroine!
Action plan:
1. Letters to the United Nations Security Council, to all NGOs, to government agencies and influential individuals bringing to their attention the heinous acts committed by a member of the UN Security Council, using the tools of terrorism - kidnapping, hostage-taking, and show trials--to intimidate opposition.
2. Demonstrations at the Russian Embassies around the world.
3. Appeals directed to Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, from NGOs and individuals concerned about the illegal detention and subjection to show trial of Lt. Nadiya Savchenko.
4. Letters to the President of Ukraine, Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Petro Poroshenko, asking him to demand the release of Lt. Nadiya Savchenko, even under conditions of prisoner exchange.
5. Appeal to women of Russia with proposal to support our movement - SAVE UKRAINIAN HEROINE!
