STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Ukrainian Independence Day:
“Today, Ukrainians and Ukrainian communities in Canada and around the world celebrate 26 years of independence and freedom.
“As we mark both this important occasion and 150 years since Confederation, I invite Canadians to reflect on the immeasurable contribution of the Ukrainian-Canadian community to building a diverse and inclusive Canada.
“On this day, the Government of Canada reiterates its full support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to advance democracy, the rule of law, and sustainable economic development. Canada looks forward to continuing to work closely with Ukraine in areas of mutual interest, including the implementation of the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force
on August 1.
