LEAGUE OF UKRAINIAN CANADIANS DELEGATION MEETS WITH SPEAKER DAVE LEVAC
On December 15, 2017 a delegation representing members of the National Executive of the League of Ukrainian Canadians (LUC) met with the Hon. Dave Levac,SpeakeroftheLegislative Assembly of Ontario, in his office at the Main Legislative Building, Queen’s Park, Toronto.
The purpose of the meeting was to brief Speaker Levac on the situation in eastern Ukraine and Russia’s war of aggression against the Ukrainian people. The need for worldwide recognition of the Holodomor as an act of genocide and the importance of the establishment of the Holodomor Memorial in Toronto were also discussed and strongly supported by the Speaker.
Most importantly, members of the LUC delegation were in agreement with Speaker Levac that the Canadian government should continue on its current path of assistance to Ukraine and that the most recent sanctions on Russia passed by the U.S. Congress should be implemented as soon as possible. In his letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Speaker Levac urges the Canadian government to continue its dialogue with Ukrainian officials to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
The LUC delegation also presented Speaker Levac with a Ukrainian national flag, signed by Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines in eastern Ukraine to honour him for introducing and sponsoring the Holodomor Memorial Day Act in the Ontario parliament, and “Volunteer Battalions”, a book depicting the heroic deeds of volunteer soldiers who saved Ukraine from defeat at the beginning of the war in 2014.
The League of Ukrainian Canadians is deeply grateful to Speaker Dave Levac for his support of Ukrainians, both in Ontario and Ukraine.
