In celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, the 65th Anniversary of the League of Ukrainian Canadian Women and the 70th Anniversary of Ukraine Echo a Tribute Gala “Ukrainians. A Cause without Borders” was held at the Old Mill Toronto. The keynote address was delivered by the Rd. Hon Stephen Harper, the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada.
During the Tribute Gala, the Rt. Hon Stephen Harper was awarded with the Pinnacle Award. This award was established in 2015 by the International Council in Support of Ukraine, the international umbrella organization for both LUC and LUCW, to recognize outstanding individuals who have contributed to a positive image of the Ukrainian identity on the world stage and have promoted a democratic and secure Ukrainian state.
It was also especially moving to witness His Excellency Andriy Shevchenko award the Right Honourable Stephen Harper with the Order of Liberty by the Government of Ukraine - the highest order of Ukraine which can be awarded to a non-Ukrainian citizen. This award truly symbolizes the special bond between Canada and Ukraine and the unparalleled support that The Right Honourable Stephen Harper and his Government provided for Ukraine.
The Tribute Gala provided a friendly platform to join together as a community in celebrating the accomplishments of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, the League of Ukrainian Canadian Women, and Ukrainian Echo and support their ongoing efforts in providing humanitarian aid and assistance to Ukrainian soldiers and their families affected by the ongoing war in Eastern Ukraine.
